On October 10th, good news came from Southwest Oil & Gas Field Company: Pengyang Well X, deployed in Nanchong City, achieved an ultra-high-yield industrial gas flow of over 3 million cubic meters during the testing of the MK Formation, setting a new record for exploration well testing in the Sichuan Basin.

The record-breaking Pengyang 111 Well is a key appraisal well deployed in the North Slope Zone of Nanchong, central Sichuan area within the Sichuan Basin. This well features complex reservoir conditions, with a medium-length stimulation interval, and exhibits characteristics such as low porosity, low permeability, and high water saturation—posing high requirements for the acidizing technology used in reservoir stimulation.
In response to the reservoir characteristics of Pengyang 111 Well, a series of cutting dissolution experiments were conducted. By comparing different acid types and adjusting key parameters, the team explored the influence rules of various acid parameters on the reservoir acidizing effect of Pengyang 111 Well, providing “one-on-one” data support for subsequent acid selection. Combined with the reservoir stimulation objectives of this well, the team focused on the core needs of acid in practical application, and carried out targeted experimental research on key properties such as acid compatibility, corrosion resistance, and drag reduction performance, ensuring that the acid performance matches the geological and engineering stimulation requirements. Based on the conclusions of previous experiments, a refined acidizing technology scheme was finally formed, which takes gelled acid as the main acid and self-generated acid preflush fluid as the auxiliary. During the on-site construction phase, the team further strictly controlled the entire process of acid preparation to ensure that key performance indicators fully met the design standards, and finally achieved the ultra-high-yield stimulation target.
