To address the drawbacks of traditional oxidizing gel breakers and meet the operational demands of shallow low-temperature wells, our company has launched a newly developed innovative gel breaker. It delivers outstanding and highly efficient gel breaking performance in the full temperature range, with a particularly fast gel breaking speed at low temperatures, and the apparent viscosity of the broken gel fluid remains ≤ 5 mPa·s after completion of gel breaking. It delivers superior gel breaking results for specific polymer-based thickeners, including self-crosslinking emulsions, suspension emulsions and polymer powders, and is also suitable for gel breaking of guar gum in low-temperature environments.

At present, the most widely used low-temperature oxidizing gel breakers on the market are potassium persulfate, ammonium persulfate and similar products. The activity of oxidants is closely related to temperature: generally, when the formation temperature drops below 50℃, the reaction rate becomes extremely slow, requiring the addition of a low-temperature gel breaking activator, with triethanolamine and sodium sulfite being the most common options.

Oxidizing gel breakers have multiple critical limitations:

① At high temperatures, they react rapidly with the fracturing fluid, leading to premature degradation of the fluid. This causes the fracturing fluid to lose its ability to transport proppant, and can even result in the failure of the entire fracturing operation.

② As non-specific reactants, they can react with any substances they come into contact with, including downhole tubing, formation matrix and hydrocarbons. This produces contaminants incompatible with the formation, which in turn causes permanent formation damage.

③ The oxidizing gel breaker is very likely to be fully consumed before reaching the target fracture, making it impossible to achieve the desired gel breaking performance.

To solve the above technical pain points, our company’s newly developed innovative gel breaker leverages a dual mechanism of free radical oxidative degradation and rapid low-temperature activation with dedicated activators. It resolves the three key limitations of traditional oxidizing agents: excessive destructiveness, weak controllability, and high residue generation. It has become the go-to solution for unconventional oil and gas development (shale gas and tight oil included) and low-temperature reservoir stimulation, with further optimized gel breaking efficiency and economic viability.

This product uses a water-based formula and is non-flammable. It is free of VOCs, organochlorine, fluorine, alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates (OP), as well as nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NP). With excellent biodegradability, the product is fully safe, eco-friendly and compliant with global environmental regulations.

If you are interested in this novel gel breaker, please feel free to contact our company at any time. Based on your specific fracturing fluid system and field operation requirements, we can provide tailored recommendations for the novel gel breaker products and their application protocols, to minimize the overall cost of your project to the greatest extent and enhance your field operation efficiency.
